Don’t put off your invitation when it arrives
Breast screening is a vital part in detecting breast cancer at an early stage, often before any symptoms appear.
The NHS Breast Screening Programme offers free breast screening every three years to people aged 50 up to their 71st birthday who are registered as female with a GP. If you are transgender or non-binary and would like to be invited for breast screening talk to your GP surgery. They can advise if you can have breast screening.
Even if you feel fit and healthy, attending screening when invited is important. Your screening may identify changes that are not yet be noticeable, helping ensure treatment can begin as early as possible if needed.
It's also important to remember that screening is not a substitute for knowing your body. If you notice a lump, swelling, nipple discharge, skin changes or any other unusual change, contact your GP instead of waiting for your next appointment.
